Would you like to try snowshoeing, return after a break or simply enjoy a winter day in a spectacular alpine landscape? The Gemmi, the high plateau of the Swiss Alps, is the perfect place.

Starting from Base Camp Gemmi, we explore the snow-covered plateau and discover the basics of snowshoeing step by step. Along the way, your guide shares practical tips on equipment, technique and safety, together with insights into alpine nature and wildlife-friendly snowshoeing.

With a little luck, we may spot bearded vultures, ibex or chamois, or discover their tracks in the snow. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

A sharing platter together in the panoramic restaurant rounds off the day.

Dates in 2027: 7 January; 2, 9, 16 and 23 February; and 2 March. Each date is a separate day tour.

The tour runs with 4–20 participants. From 11 people, a second guide or trainee joins the group. Languages: German, French and English.

  • Make your own way up on the Gemmi cable car.
  • 09:45: meet at the Gemmipass upper cable car station, welcome and equipment check.
  • An enjoyable snowshoe hike with an introduction to equipment, technique and safety, plus insights into alpine nature and wildlife.
  • 15:30: relax together over a sharing platter in the panoramic restaurant.
  • Approximately 16:00: end of the activity. Individual descent by cable car; last departure at 17:00.

Routes are adapted to current conditions.

For beginners, those with little experience and anyone looking for an enjoyable winter day. Previous snowshoeing and deep-snow experience is useful but not essential.

Difficulty: WT2, with individual sections at WT3 on the SAC snowshoe scale. You need the fitness for approximately 5 km, 400 metres of ascent and descent, and 2.5–3 hours of walking. The route is adapted to conditions.

Price: CHF 89 per adult. Young people: CHF 79.

  • Planning, organisation and guiding by an experienced Gemmi Guide with a Swiss federal professional qualification and UIMLA certification
  • Introduction to equipment, technique, safety and wildlife-friendly snowshoeing
  • A sharing platter at the end of the tour
  • Safety kit with avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, subject to availability

Not included: personal travel costs and Gemmi cable car, snacks, drinks including those with the sharing platter, any equipment hire and insurance.

You need snowshoes, telescopic poles and a safety kit with avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.

Bring warm, waterproof mountain boots, winter clothing in layers, wind and weather protection, a hat, gloves, sunglasses and sun protection. Carry a backpack with a drink, picnic and snacks.

Included in the price: safety kit, subject to availability. Snowshoes and telescopic poles can be hired at a preferential rate, subject to availability.

A safety kit is normally required for all snowshoe tours on the Gemmi. If it is exceptionally not needed, we will explicitly let you know.

Your Gemmi Guide Reini Meichtry and the Gemmi Guide team

You will be accompanied by Reini Meichtry or another Gemmi Guide with a Swiss federal professional qualification and UIMLA certification. In-depth local knowledge and many years of experience in alpine and winter terrain provide the foundations for safe, personal nature experiences.

With expertise and enthusiasm, your guide shares insights into the Gemmi, its nature and wildlife, and safe, wildlife-friendly snowshoeing. From eleven participants, a second guide or trainee provides additional support.
