Destination The Gemmi

The Gemmi, towering above Leukerbad at 2,350 meters above sea level, is one of the most striking high plateaus in the Swiss Alps, situated between the rugged Valais rock formations and the gentle Bernese mountains. Since the Middle Ages, the Gemmi Pass has served as an important north-south link between Valais and Bern. Muleteers transported wine, salt, cheese, and other goods across the pass. In the 19th century, spa guests traveled over the Gemmi to Leukerbad, and the Gemmi became an important part of Leukerbad’s early tourism development. The fascination with the Gemmi remains undiminished; the expansive views around Lake Daubensee and the captivating mountain panorama attract both those seeking relaxation and mountain sports enthusiasts to the Gemmi in both summer and winter.

Sun-kissed Summer

In the summer, numerous hiking and trail routes lead you through the impressive plateau, past striking rock formations. The unique, sweeping panorama accompanies you at every step. Whether you’re strolling, hiking or climbing—here you can experience nature in all its intensity. And with a little luck, you might spot a bearded vulture.
