The Gemmi provides a spectacular habitat for bearded vultures, ibex and many other alpine animals. Spend three days immersed in wildlife and bird photography with nature photographer Hansruedi Weyrich. Gemmi Guide Reini Meichtry joins you on two days.

The focus is on wildlife, nature photography during the blue hour and at sunrise, and working with different lighting conditions. In a small group, you receive individual advice on composition, camera settings and shooting techniques.

Photographic expertise and local knowledge help us respond flexibly to weather, light and wildlife observations. Learn to observe animals respectfully and photograph without disturbing nature.

Illustrated talks and individual image reviews round off the workshop. You stay at Gemmi Lodge 2350.

Make your own way up on the Gemmi cable car. Meet at Gemmi Lodge 2350 at 13:00; rooms are available from 13:00. Welcome and workshop introduction at 13:30.

Photography outing to the cliff edge: photograph alpine choughs in flight and observe alpine birdlife. We photograph into the evening.

Four-course dinner together in the panoramic restaurant. Afterwards, an illustrated talk on the bearded vulture and its reintroduction in the Alps, for workshop participants and hotel guests.

Nature photography during the blue hour and at sunrise, followed by a generous breakfast buffet.

Together with Hansruedi Weyrich and Gemmi Guide Reini Meichtry, we follow the tracks of bearded vultures, ibex and other wildlife. You receive individual advice on wildlife photography, composition, camera settings and different shooting techniques. We practise responsible, wildlife-friendly photography in the field.

Packed lunch outdoors. We photograph until the evening light leaves the rocky ridges. After dinner together, a wildlife photography workshop and individual image reviews.

Nature photography in the morning light, followed by a generous breakfast buffet. Refine your photographic techniques with individual guidance on a final photography outing.

A picnic together outdoors with the packed lunch, followed by the official end of the workshop at approximately 13:00. Afterwards, make your own way home or continue photographing independently on the Gemmi.

The workshop is suitable for photographers from beginners to professionals. Bring a digital SLR or mirrorless camera; a telephoto lens of at least 400 mm is recommended.

Demanding terrain: sure-footedness on mountain paths and off-trail alpine terrain up to T3/T4. Good fitness for daily stages of 8–10 km, up to 1,000 metres of ascent and descent and up to 6 hours of walking.

You carry all your own photographic equipment. Excellent hiking or trekking boots with a grippy tread are required. The route is adapted to conditions.

Small group. Fair price. From CHF 1’270 per person.

The booking price is CHF 1’390 per person in a Comfort double room. Guaranteed departure from 4 participants, maximum 10 people.

Group bonus: if at least 9 participants have registered by the registration deadline, all guests, including those already booked, receive a CHF 120 refund. The final price is then CHF 1’270 per person.

Single room on request and subject to availability: CHF 20 per night, CHF 40 in total for two nights.

If you book a shared double room and no suitable room partner can be found, the single-room supplement will apply.

If the room category is no longer available, accommodation will be provided in another available category with the corresponding supplement or reduction. Comfort rooms have shared bathroom facilities on the same floor.

Your Gemmi Guide Hansruedi Weyrich

Hansruedi Weyrich has been photographing wildlife for over 35 years and shares his knowledge through workshops, courses and talks. His particular passion is the bearded vulture. For more than 15 years, he has supported its reintroduction in the Alps and knows the habitat and behaviour of these fascinating birds at first hand.

His work has won several awards and appears in publications including GEO, National Geographic and NaturFoto. During the workshop, you benefit from his experience and individual photographic guidance.

Your Gemmi Guide Reini Meichtry

Reini Meichtry joins Hansruedi Weyrich to guide you on two days. As a hiking guide with a Swiss federal professional qualification, UIMLA International Mountain Leader and holder of the additional authorisation for T4 alpine hiking, he combines local knowledge with many years of experience in alpine terrain.

The founder of simply.hiking and Head of Destination Experiences at the Gemmi has guided guests for many years in Switzerland, across the Alps and as far as the Himalayas. His tours combine personal experiences in nature with insights into landscapes, wildlife and culture.
