Experience Nature
High Plateau Habitat

The Gemmi is a diverse habitat. Bearded vultures, ibex, and alpine plant species call Lake Dauben and the surrounding floodplains and striking rock faces home. The plateau showcases nature as it changes with the seasons—authentic, impressive, and accessible.

The Gemmi Plateau is more than just a viewpoint. It is a hub, a gateway, and a distinct habitat all in one. Hiking trails connect the region with Adelboden, the Lötschental, Crans-Montana, and the sun-drenched mountains of Upper Valais. Visitors here experience nature in all its diversity—from peaceful loop hikes to long-distance alpine treks and climbing routes up to lofty peaks.

Out in the countryside

The Gemmi is a diverse hiking region. Around Lake Dauben, well-maintained trails wind through open countryside, offering easy hikes with stunning views that are perfect for families.

Those looking to go higher will find challenging mountain hikes and alpine treks to striking peaks such as the Steghorn or the Daubenhorn. An impressive high-alpine glacier landscape begins at the Wildstrubel.

The Gemmi is also the starting point for long-distance hikes to Adelboden, to Crans Montana via the Schwarzhorn and Rothornlücke, or into the Lötschental via the Gitzifurgga to the Lötschenpasshütte. The sunny mountains of Upper Valais all the way to Jeizinen and the rugged alpine hike to the Lohnerhütte SAC are also part of the alpine network.

Simplicity and spaciousness

In winter, the plateau transforms into a vast, tranquil snow-covered landscape. Lake Daubensee lies beneath a blanket of snow, and the rocky cliffs of the Gemmi stand out clearly.

Enjoyable winter hikes lead around Lake Daubensee or over to Sunnbüel. Sledding offers speed and fun for young and old alike. The cross-country ski trail on the frozen lake offers a rare experience: gliding at 2,350 meters above sea level in open high-mountain terrain.

Snowshoe tours lead off the beaten path into alpine terrain. Those who want to go higher can take a ski tour to striking peaks.

In winter, the Gemmi combines peaceful nature experiences with athletic challenges—nestled in a vast, high-alpine setting.

Alpine flora and fauna

The Gemmi is a sensitive alpine habitat. The bearded vulture circles majestically along the rock faces, ibex and chamois move confidently across the steep terrain, and golden eagles can also be spotted here.

At the foot of the Wildstrubel, the Lämmerenboden and Lämmerensee form an alpine floodplain landscape of national significance. Here, water shapes the terrain, shifts material, creates new areas, and causes others to disappear. Around Lake Dauben, karst formations and open high-mountain structures define the landscape.

In early summer, alpine meadows bloom. Between rock and meadow, plants thrive that are adapted to extreme conditions. With a little attention, you can also spot the protected edelweiss. Unassuming at first glance, resilient, and closely linked to alpine culture.

The Gemmi is not just a scenic backdrop. It is a living natural space.
