Winter Magic – Step by Step

At an elevation of 2,350 meters, a vast snowy landscape opens up on the plateau. Here, you can set out on marked trails or join a guided snowshoe tour off the beaten path. Introductory snowshoe courses will give you the confidence and skills you need for independent tours in winter terrain.

The Gemmi is a particularly versatile snowshoeing area. Thanks to the Gemmi Cable Car from Leukerbad, you can reach the Gemmi plateau in just a few minutes, and your snowshoe hike can begin right at the mountain station.

The wide, open landscape offers ideal conditions for snowshoe tours of varying difficulty. From easy routes on marked trails to more technically demanding routes in alpine terrain—there’s something for everyone here.

Snowshoe trails on the plateau

On the marked trails, anyone who wants to explore on their own can discover the vast landscape step by step. Introductory snowshoeing courses make it easy to get started. Advanced courses that include avalanche training lay the foundation for independent snowshoeing tours in alpine terrain.

The marked trails lead through open snowfields, along gentle ridges, and offer impressive views of the surrounding mountains of the Matterhorn region. The trails are suitable for beginners as well as experienced snowshoers.

Guided snowshoe tours

On guided snowshoe tours, you’ll explore alpine terrain off the marked trails. Your route takes you into terrain where experience, assessing avalanche conditions, and choosing safe routes are crucial. With guides who know the area well, you’ll travel with confidence, and every tour becomes an immersive experience in nature. With a little luck, you’ll spot golden eagles or chamois and see the bearded vulture gliding through the air.

Advanced courses with avalanche training provide the necessary knowledge for independent travel in alpine terrain and ensure safety for your own adventures.

We’d be happy to advise you personally and find the right format for your winter experience on the Gemmi.

Introductory Snowshoe Tour

Our tour is perfect for beginners or those getting back into the sport. Or simply for a leisurely day trip. We’ll get to know the gear and equipment, practice basic skiing techniques, and discuss trail maintenance as well as simple safety considerations in the backcountry. How can we consciously reduce risks in the snow? What should we keep in mind to avoid disturbing wildlife in winter? The focus is on the experience: moving through the winter landscape, the vastness, the crisp air, and the joy of being out and about. We’ll wrap up with a cozy stop at the panoramic restaurant.
